A Subject Area Committee (SAC) consists of teachers of that subject from each grade level/course and building, as well as a Curriculum Coordinating Council member and an administrator. The SAC surveys current subject area teachers, analyzes the survey results for duplication, gaps and alignment, interviews subject area teachers, then revises/rewrites district curriculum. CLI consultant Stacey Bruton emphasizes that the documents the SAC creates should be considered “living” documents that will change as teachers see the need or as outcomes change.
The Fine Arts SAC revised/rewrote the art and music curriculums in 2012-2013. Art and music teachers district-wide implemented and validated their new curriculums in 2013-2014. In 2014-2015 teachers wrote assessments and looked at resources and, during the 2015-2016 school year, the Fine Arts teachers validated their assessments.
