We provide all day kindergarten at our three in-town elementary schools: Eastside, Livingston, and Sunset; and two rural elementary schools: Valley and Wapiti. We encourage parents, guardians and other family members to be active in their child’s education, knowing that children achieve more when their parents and the school work together collaboratively and cooperatively.
Your child must be 5 by September 15 of his/her incoming school year to enroll in kindergarten. School registration forms are available at the bottom of this page. The Registration Form, Home Language Survey, School Nurse WyIR Access, Student Health Information, and Field Trip Permission must be completed for each student being registered. Completed registration forms should be submitted to the District Offices at 919 Cody Avenue. A current immunization record and birth certificate for each student is also required.
District kindergarten registration is April 7, 2016 from 8 am - 4 pm at the Stock Activities Center; announcements of the date and times are also posted in the Cody Enterprise. On April 28, incoming registered kindergarten students will be given a standardized readiness screening. This process takes 50 minutes to one hour, will help determine your child’s readiness levels specific to kindergarten, and may address concerns you might have about whether your child needs another year to grow.
Registered kindergartners may attend the district’s Kindergarten Readiness Camp (KRC), free of charge, Monday through Thursday, from 8 to noon, June 13 to June 23. KRC activities include reading, writing and math as well as school skills like walking in the halls, transitioning from one classroom to another, crossing in the crosswalk, and riding the bus.
A confidentiality form is available upon request. This form addresses the release of information about your child by the schools. Once a parent/guardian signs this form, schools will not release directory information about the named student.
School meal program information and applications are distributed at the beginning of the school year and are available throughout the year from building secretaries. If you have any questions about the school meal program, please call the School Nutrition Director at 587-4285.
The district provides bus transportation to and from school. For more information, you may call the Bus Barn at 587-2851.
We will attempt to place your student at the school in your neighborhood or that you request; however, this is not always possible due to the policy requirement that class sizes be balanced across the district. Parents will be informed of their school assignment in late May by a phone call from the building principal or secretary.
The State of Wyoming provides Hathaway Merit and Need-based Scholarships to all eligible Wyoming students attending Wyoming Community Colleges or the University of Wyoming. Contact your school counselor for more information.
