School Closure Information

Park County School District No 6 Families,

I would like to thank the families and staff of PCSD #6 for your support and patience as the impact of the COVID-19 virus begins to impact our community. We have been working closely with our local public health experts to provide guidance in our decisions moving forward. While we do not have any confirmed cases at this time, we are taking preventative measures to reduce the possibility of spreading the virus.

After consulting with public health officials and state and local officials, including Governor Mark Gordon and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow, we have decided to close all PCSD #6 schools starting Monday, March 16. Schools will remain closed through at least Friday, April 3. We will communicate with families as soon as we have the necessary information to make future decisions. For more information, please take a moment to read our school closure letter.

COVID-19 and Mental Health

As the world’s focus turns to a virus with physical symptoms, we should not ignore the emotional repercussions. Adults and children have a lot to deal with these days from fear of infection, to a sense of dread, and lack of control. Paying attention to your mental health, and your child’s mental health, is of particular importance right now. Our children’s world has been turned upside down as they are pulled away from their regular routines. They may be feeling lonely and isolated as they are not in school or hanging out with their friends. There are numerous ways parents can help reduce the myriad feelings of anxiety, depression, fear, and restlessness that children may be feeling.

We know that children react, in part, based upon what they see from the adults around them. Staying calm and having discussions about the crisis and your family’s response is a good starting point.

Please see our COVID-19 and mental health information for parents to learn more.
