Thanksgiving Break is coming up!

A special guest from the Buffalo Bill Center of the West/Draper Natural History Museum visited our 4th graders today. Hayden, the Swainson's hawk, came with Chloe Walker and Bev Keeper to help us understand about raptors, their lifestyle, habitats, and migration patterns. The 4th graders participated in a migration obstacle course to help them understand what the hawks encounter during their migration to and from South America.

With the help of Change Attitudes Now (C.A.N.) student leadership, Sunset Elementary 5th graders experienced hands-on history by learning traditional preservation techniques from the American Revolution era. Students ground wheat and corn to make flour and meal, then used their ingredients to bake homemade loaves of bread. They also sliced and dried apples, discovering how early Americans preserved food without modern conveniences. This engaging activity brought history to life and helped students appreciate the resourcefulness and hard work of those who lived during revolutionary times. This activity is supported with grant funds from the Daughters of the American Revolution through their American Revolution Legacy Grant.
