Dear CMS Parents/Guardians, I wanted to take this opportunity to again share with you Cody Middle School's promotion and retention policy, as well as the various support systems we have in place for our students. This information has been shared with parents/guardians earlier in the year via newsletters, emails, and during our back to school information night, but I find it important to once again reemphasize. At Cody Middle School, we are committed to ensuring that every student receives the necessary support to thrive academically. We understand that each child learns at their own pace and may face unique challenges along the way. Therefore, we have implemented a range of initiatives to provide tailored assistance to students who may be struggling academically. Our Academic Systems of Support include: Advisory & After-School Tutoring: We have a built-in advisory class for each student four days a week with the intended purpose of remediation and academic support. We also offer an after-school tutoring program Monday - Thursday to provide additional academic support and guidance to students. The PCSD6 Transportation Department also offers transportation services to students who attend after-school tutoring and live within city limits. Standards-Referenced Grades: Our grading system is based on standards-referenced assessments, providing clear feedback to students and parents on their academic progress and areas for improvement. Effective Tier 1 Classroom Instruction: Our dedicated educational staff deliver high-quality standards-based instruction in the classroom, on a daily basis, to meet the diverse learning needs of our students. Educator effectiveness is evaluated using a framework based on four different strategic domains including, planning and preparation, the classroom environment, instruction, and professional responsibility. Effective Tier 2 Academic Supports: For students who require more targeted assistance, we offer a wide range of Tier 2 academic supports to address specific learning gaps and challenges. Examples of this include our Reading Intervention course, our Cody Academy Course, and our Friday Math Remediation process. Reading Intervention & Cody Academy: We have a specialized literacy course in place to support students in improving their literacy skills, as well as a Cody Academy course, which is designed to provide targeted assistance to students who may be facing challenges in their ELA and Social Studies courses. Friday Math Remediation: We have a specialized math remediation process that takes place during Friday Enrichment hours, where students receive support and opportunities to remediate failing assessments and target specific skills and standards. We strive to provide comprehensive support to all students, and it's important to note that promotion to the next grade level is based on various factors, including academic performance, attendance, and participation. According to Park County School District 6 Board Policy IKE-R, students may be retained in middle level grades because of a failure to: Achieve passing grades in assigned classes Attend school on a regular basis Demonstrate proficiency of knowledge and skills based on district curriculum and standards. The decision to retain a student is not taken lightly. It is made after careful consideration by a team of teachers, counselors, and administrators, with parental involvement playing a crucial role in the process. Possible factors that may contribute to the decision for retention include lack of attendance, poor academic performance, failure to complete curriculum, lack of maturity and development, failure to meet state standards, and overwhelming behavioral concerns. If your student is at risk of retention, you will have already been notified prior to this communication via email and phone. Our goal is to work collaboratively with parents/guardians to develop a personalized success plan for students at-risk of being retained. This success plan will address your students academic needs and facilitate their progress. Our goal is to empower every student to reach their full potential and achieve academic success. If you have any questions or concerns about our promotion and retention policy, or if you would like more information about the support systems available to your student, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to support you and your student every step of the way. Thank you for your continued partnership in your student's education. Sincerely, Jacob R. Gogan Principal Cody Middle School

Promotion and Retention
Dear Cody Middle School Families, As we approach the inclement weather season, we want to inform all Cody Middle School families about our procedures for handling adverse weather conditions. To ensure the safety of our staff and students, we have incorporated a temporary virtual education policy (TVE). Utilizing a TVE day will allow us to avoid having to make up the missed day. In the event of inclement weather, any closure decision will result in the implementation of virtual learning days. During these TVEs, teachers will actively engage with students to ensure that teaching and learning continue seamlessly. Kindergarten - 5th grade students have been assigned a learning resource titled “Brain Quest”. This resource provides a full year of curriculum-based exercises and activities specific to support grade-level learning at each grade. 6th - 12th grade students will use their Chromebook computers to access Canvas, the Park 6 Online Learning Portal, and maintain contact with their teachers on this day. Teachers will contact their students to provide instruction and take attendance for that day. CMS and CHS teachers will take attendance through Canvas. Thank you for your continued support of Cody Middle School and Park County School District 6. Sincerely, Jacob R. Gogan Principal Cody Middle School

Subject: Midterm Grade Update and Support Systems at Cody Middle School Dear Cody Middle School Community, I want to take a moment to update you on our recent midterm grades for Quarter 1, which took place on Wednesday, September 20. Your involvement in your child's education is crucial to their success, and we appreciate your ongoing support. We encourage all parents and guardians to regularly monitor your student's progress by checking Powerschool, our online grading system. Powerschool provides real-time access to your child's grades, assignments, and attendance records. If you have any questions or need assistance accessing Powerschool, please do not hesitate to reach out to our school office, and we will be happy to assist you. At Cody Middle School, we are committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed academically. To support our students' progress, we have implemented several systems of support: Effective Tier I Instruction: All CMS classes are staffed by effective professional educators. Our teachers provide high-quality, research-based instruction to all students in the general education classroom. Tier I instruction is designed to meet the diverse learning needs of students and it is the foundation of the rigorous standards-based education that all CMS students receive. After-School Tutoring: We offer after-school tutoring sessions to provide additional help and support for students who may be struggling with specific subjects or assignments. These sessions are designed to reinforce classroom learning and boost academic confidence. Cody Academy: Cody Academy is a Tier II academic support that offers students struggling in the areas of ELA and Social Studies extra support. Staffed by our highly-qualified reading interventionist, this class is aimed at helping students who are at-risk of failing either an ELA or social studies course. Please note that any student who fails either ELA or Social Studies will be removed from their elective class and placed into Cody Academy at the end of the quarter. Reading Intervention Classes: For students who require additional support in reading comprehension and fluency, we also offer a Tier II reading intervention class. The goal of this class is to help students demonstrate proficiency on Wyoming literacy standards, and provide support in all other literacy related content areas. Our primary goal is to see your child succeed and thrive. However, it is essential to be aware that if a student fails multiple subjects, retention may be a possibility. We understand that each student has unique needs, and we are dedicated to working closely with families to provide the necessary support and interventions to prevent this from happening. We believe that a collaborative effort between parents, students, and teachers is vital to achieving success. If you have any concerns or questions about your child's progress or need information about the support systems in place, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to assist you and ensure that your child receives the best education possible. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. Sincerely, Jacob R. Dear Cody Middle School Community, I am writing to provide you with an important update regarding an incident that occurred earlier today at Cody Middle School Shortly before 9:45 AM, we became aware of a gas leak outside of our building, near the CMS Ropes Course. In the interest of safety and out of an abundance of caution, we immediately initiated our emergency response and evacuation procedures to ensure the well-being of all our students and staff. I want to assure you that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We worked closely with Black Hills Energy and the PCSD6 Maintenance Department to address the situation promptly. I am pleased to report that the gas leak has been successfully stopped, and after a thorough assessment, our building has been deemed safe for occupancy. I want to commend our students and staff for their calm and orderly response during the evacuation. Your cooperation and understanding during this situation are greatly appreciated. We will continue to prioritize the safety of our school community and keep you updated on any further developments. Thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate this situation together. Sincerely, Jacob R. Gogan Principal Cody Middle School
